PURPOSE AND MAIN TASKS

Il-78MK-90A tanker aircraft is designed for air-borne refueling the different aircraft and ground-borne fueling the aircraft.

 

Air-borne refueling is performed via three fueling points under visual visibility and steady tanker aircraft contact conditions. 

 

Il-78MK-90A may take off and land on the concrete and natural ground airfields. Under the operating conditions, Il-78MK-90A may be modified into the air-lifter, ambulance or fire-fighting version.

 

 

 

EQUIPMENT

Air-borne equipment

 

Il-78MK-90A is equipped with the up-to-date avionics, inclusive of the new generation navigation and targeting system. The aircraft equipment allows for day-and-night flying in any geographical and climatic conditions, favorable and adverse weather conditions.

 

 

Fueling and special-purpose equipment

 

Il-78MK-90A fueling equipment includes two removable fuselage fuel tanks in the cargo compartment, fire detection and extinguishing system, emergency defueling system, short-range navigation system (ensures search and approach of the fuel receiving aircraft and tanker aircraft at up to 300 km distance), standardized overhead fueling units.
