PRESS RELEASE


The 9th meeting of the Russia-India Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Technical Cooperation was held in Moscow on October 14-15 and chaired by Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and his Indian counterpart A. K. Antony.
The Sides agreed to shortly elaborate a mutually acceptable approach on overhauling the heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov for the Indian Navy. They also reached an agreement to address all of the organizational issues by the 2009 end, relating to the joint development of an advanced multipurpose fighter, and embark on its manufacturing. The Sides expressed their readiness to collaborate in the joint development of helicopters and an advanced infantry combat vehicle. The meeting’s participants showed their interest in upgrading MiG-27 и SU-30MKI aircrafts, Т-72М1, and Т-90С tanks, BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles which are in service with the Indian Armed Forces
The Russian-Indian Joint Venture BrahMos was highly acclaimed by the sides for its successful cooperation. The anti-ship missile system designed by the JV was made operational in India and put into serial manufacturing.
The main focus of discussions during the meeting was the extension of the existing bilateral agreement on military and technical cooperation for another decade, from 2011 to 2020.
By results of the 9th meeting of the Commission, a final Protocol was signed, which outlined far-reaching areas of bilateral military and technical cooperation, and specified ways of implementation of current projects.
