The 7th meeting of the Russia-India Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation chaired by Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and his Indian counterpart A. K. Antony was held in Moscow on 18 October 2007.
Following the results of the Commission, Deputy Chairman of Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on MTC, FSMTC of Russia Deputy Director V.K. Dzirkaln, and Deputy Chairman of Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on MTC, Deputy Defense Minister of the Republic of India K.P. Singh in charge of the defense industry signed agreements:
an Agreement on joint development and production of prospective multi role fighters. This document will allow our countries to implement the project based on pro rata financing and engineering contribution to a joint development of a 5th generation aircraft. The project may become one of the largest MTC programs between the two countries;
An agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of India on the Russian-Indian cooperation in production of Su-30MKI tail units and their installation on a Su-30MK-type aircraft of the Russian make. The Agreement will promote unification of the technological bases of the Russian and the Indian aviation industry, including design and process technologies.
The Russian side feels optimistic about MTC prospects with India and is strongly committed to its expansion on a mutually advantageous basis. The FSMTC of Russia expresses hope that the cooperation will further escalate through joint projects on development and production of new systems of arms and military hardware.
