on entering into Contract for Mi-17B5 military transport helicopters
26 May 2011, the United States Army Forces Command and FSUE Rosoboronexport entered into a contract for delivery of 21 new Mi-17V5 military transport helicopters.
Russian-made helicopters will enter into service of the Air Forces of Afghanistan and will expand the existing fleet of Mi-17 helicopters. Along with flying vehicles, the contract provides deliveries of spare parts, ground service facilities, and logistics services.
Export of the first batch of helicopters for the Air Forces of Afghanistan is scheduled for October 2011. Other batches will be delivered during 2012.
Acquisition of helicopters is a part of a wider operation of the USA and the International Security Assistance Force aimed to escalate capabilities, and potential of the Afghani national security forces.
